City Council Schedules Listening Sessions to Hear Community on City PrioritiesPublic Also Invited to City Council Priority Setting/Strategic Planning Workshop
Half Moon Bay, CA – The City Council of Half Moon Bay invites community members to attend Listening Sessions in March to join in the discussion and share their vision for the City’s priorities in the upcoming year. The purpose of these sessions is for the City Council members to hear directly from the people who live and work in Half Moon Bay, and gain a broad range of community input on what people feel are the critical priorities the City should be focusing on. The public is also invited to the all-day City Council Priority Setting / Strategic Planning Workshop, at which the Council will set its priorities for the upcoming fiscal year (July 2019-June 2020). More information is available online at www.hmbcity.com/listen. For community members who are not able to attend a session, this web page includes a form to provide input and ideas about the City's priorities (comment form will be available on March 3).
To garner as much public participation as possible, three Listening Sessions have been scheduled, in addition to the City Council Priority Setting / Strategic Planning Workshop. Spanish translation will be available at the Listening Sessions, and Session 2 will be conducted in Spanish. All Listening Sessions will have the same content.
The City Council will integrate community input from the Listening Sessions into its discussions as development of the City budget for next fiscal year begins, and existing priorities are discussed. How to incorporate new ideas, issues, and concepts gained from community members at the three Listening Sessions will be part of the discussion at the Council’s Priority Setting Workshop.
“These Listening Sessions are for City Councilmembers to listen to the people of our community,” said Half Moon Bay Mayor Harvey Rarback. “We’re looking forward to many thoughtful, productive comments and ideas about the City’s priorities for the next year. It’s important for lots of people to attend and get engaged in this process, to help continue moving our community vision forward.”
Each session will provide initial time for attendees to review displays offering an overview of existing City Council Priorities, City departments, and operations. After a welcome by Mayor Rarback, the entire group – including attending City Councilmembers - will be invited to sit down. Facilitators will assist in the process of inviting each community member to provide their comments.
As Listening Sessions, rather than engage in a back-and-forth dialog, the goal will be to allow direct input from the community to the Council. Staff will take notes, and a summary of the sessions will be provided to the City Council at a regular meeting and at the Priority Setting Workshop. Community members who cannot attend one of these three Listening Sessions are invited to provide their comments at www.hmbcity.com/listen. An input form on that page will be available on March 3, the day after the first Listening Session.
