Half Moon Bay Unveils New City Website

HALF MOON BAY, CA – The City of Half Moon Bay has unveiled its much-anticipated new website, offering an updated, attractive look-and-feel, improved ease-of-navigation, and enhanced access to the many levels of City information available. The City’s website address remains the same:

The home page is greatly-improved with quicker access to services, resources, news, meeting agendas, project updates, and more - all in an attractive, appealing, and helpful design. The entire site is dynamic and scales to fit any of the typical devices on which it will be viewed - from smartphone to wide screen monitor.

Through a contract with CivicPlus, one of the nation’s top municipal web hosting service providers, the City’s website now has a simplified, logical navigation and layout. The front page is populated with the most-desired and useful functions, and a new, superior search engine will be of great help to all who visit. The new website offers other improved functionality - new online forms, easier updating of content to keep information fresh and useful, quick access to key pages via large buttons, an enhanced calendar, and a variety of options for communicating with the people who live and work in Half Moon Bay.

The process of developing a new, vastly-improved website is complex and time consuming - and our results are well-worth the wait,” said Half Moon Bay Mayor Debbie Ruddock. “We’re pleased with the improvements, and I’m sure our community members who utilize the site will be happy with the entirely new look, the great navigation, and the quick access to the information they need.” As people throughout the community visit and use the new Half Moon Bay website, the City will continue to update it, make adjustments, and provide further refinements and improvements. A number of the top-level pages on the new Half Moon Bay website are provided and will be maintained in Spanish, for those in the community who are more comfortable browsing in that language. The rest of the webpages can be translated by the included Google Translate function (which offers approximated translations).

To bring this new website to the community, the City engaged in a lengthy process including a needs assessment, creating and distributing a request for proposals, reviewing proposals and interviewing web hosting candidates, and selecting the web hosting firm. Once that selection was made, City staff worked for several months with CivicPlus to develop the graphic look and feel of the new site and to migrate content from the old website. Then, a great deal of writing, re-writing, and editing of the content took place, as well as fully developing the navigation and menus for the site.

Located 28 miles south of San Francisco, the City of Half Moon Bay is a community of about 12,500 people, situated on the peninsula between forested hills and some of the most beautiful coastlines that California has to offer. Its historic downtown is home to numerous shops, art galleries, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, and other businesses, and its celebrated beaches and parks are wonders of nature, accessible to pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians. With its many activities and events, beautiful natural scenery, old-town charm, and abundance of retail and commercial services, Half Moon Bay is a regional destination. The City’s website is
