The City of Half Moon Bay provides sewer collection service south of Frenchman’s Creek to Miramontes Point Road. Waste water from residences, businesses, schools, restaurants and other buildings is conveyed through sewer mains owned by the City of Half Moon Bay or the Granada Sanitary District to the sewer treatment plant operated by Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM). www.samcleanswater.org.

Sewer Service Charge
In case of a sewer backup, please call SAM at 650-726-0124. SAM maintenance crew responds to sewer service calls seven days a week/24 hours a day (24-7). The crew will determine whether the sewer problem is in the sewer system owned by the property owner, City of Half Moon Bay or Granada Sanitary District. If the stoppage is the responsibility of the resident/property owner, you will be instructed to call a plumber.

Sewage System – Definitions
The Municipal Code, Chapter 13.12 Sewage System - Definitions has been amended as follows:
Section 13.12.040 “Building sewer” is hereby amended to read as follows:
13.12.40 Building sewer.
“Building sewer” means that portion of any sewer beginning at the plumbing or drainage outlet of any building or industrial facility and running to the property line or to a private sewage disposal system. The building sewer is owned by the owner of the property it serves, and said owner is responsible for all maintenance, repairs and replacement thereof.
Section 13.12.110 “Lateral sewer” is hereby amended to read as follows:
13.12.110 Lateral sewer
“Lateral sewer” means the portion of a sewer located within a public street connecting a building sewer to the main sewer, the ownership, and responsibility for all maintenance, repairs and replacement of which lies with the owner of the property it serves.
Section 13.12.120 “Main sewer is hereby amended to read as follows:
13.12.120 Main sewer
“Main Sewer” means a City-owned and maintained sewer located within a public street or easement and designed to accommodate more than one lateral sewer.
