Future Leaders Civics academy

Applications are now available for the Future Leaders Civics Academy

This program, now in its second year, is designed to offer students in grades 9 - 12 the opportunity to experience and learn about the City’s operations and functions. The Future Leaders Civics Academy is for those who are interested in obtaining great first-hand experience in how government and the community work together to provide services and programs which residents depend upon. More information and the program application are online at www.hmbcity.com/youthcivics.

By participating in the Future Leaders Civics Academy, Half Moon Bay’s high school-aged youth will:

  • Earn community service hours
  • Add to their resume
  • Gain valuable real-world experience
  • Meet City staff and City Councilmembers to learn about City operations
  • Participate in a mock City Council meeting
  • Find out what goes on “behind the scenes” in City government

This program takes place 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. the evenings of

  • September 27
  • October 4
  • October 11
  • October 18

Dinner is included at each session. It’s a great addition to a student’s resume and is available for community service credit. The program also includes segments on public speaking and additional personal and professional development opportunities.

Participants must be incoming 9th - 12th grade students in the 2023-2024 school year (students must be residents of Half Moon Bay but may be attending school outside of the City). Any questions may be directed to Colleen Lettire at clettire@hmbcity.com.
