The City of Half Moon Bay is proud to partner with Republic Services to offer a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who displays a commitment to making Half Moon Bay more sustainable.

2022 Essay Prompt:

What is California doing to reduce its short-lived climate pollutants and why is it important to me and my community?

Submission Requirements:

Applications must be submitted electronically to sustainability@hmbcity.com by 4:00pm on Friday, May 19, 2023 and include:

• A completed application.
• A personal statement describing your plans after high school, interests in sustainability, your activities within the community, and anything else you want us to know (500 words max).
•  An essay responding to the prompt (750 words max).

Applicants are also asked to be available on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 7pm to receive their award at the Half Moon Bay City Council meeting (may be virtual or in-person).

Eligibility Requirements: 

Applicants must be a senior in high school AND either enrolled at Half Moon Bay High School, Pilarcitos High School, or a resident of the City of Half Moon Bay. Proof of enrollment or residency may be required.
