About the Ordinance

Updated 10/27/23

The City of Half Moon Bay is currently writing an ordinance about the use of electric bikes, scooters, and skateboards on the City of Half Moon Bays paved multi-use trails.

At the October 17th City Council Meeting, City staff gave an update on the implementations of California State Assembly Bill 1909 and received an updated Council recommendation to allow Class 1-3 e-bikes on the Coastal Trail and look into implementing a general speed limit as well as exploring options for enforcement, and the possibility prohibiting class 3 e-bikes on the coastal Trail.

At the April 4th City Council Meeting, City staff gave a presentation and was directed to write a draft ordinance allowing Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes as well as e-scooters and boards on the Eastside parallel trail and Naomi Patridge Trail, and prohibiting those devices on the City-owned portion of the Coastal Trail.
