Elections Night Out Event Features Food, Raffle, Music, and Voter Pre-Registration for Teens!

Half Moon Bay, CA - The City of Half Moon Bay is excited to host its second annual Elections Night Out event. Last year's event provided voters with the community environment of going to the polls on Election Day - an environment that no longer occurs with mail-ballot voting - by offering an evening of dinner, information sharing, and ballot drop-off. With no local Half Moon Bay measures on the ballot in the upcoming November election, the 2019 event will center on voter registration, primarily focused on pre-registration for our community's youth.

All eligible residents are encouraged to register to vote and join us at this event, with the goal of helping 16 and 17-year-olds pre-register so they are ready to vote once they turn 18.

Elections Night Out is being held in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day , and what better way to honor this day than with free dinner, raffle prizes, children's corner and books for kids, music, and more! City staff, along with the Census 2020 Team, County Elections staff, League of Women Voters, and staff from the Half Moon Bay Library will be there to provide information on the registration process, along with material about City projects. It is a great opportunity for the youth in our community to prepare to exercise their right to vote and help shape the future.

All are invited to join the City of Half Moon Bay for this celebration of democracy on:

Tuesday, September 24
5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Ted Adcock Community Center, 535 Kelly Avenue

"This year at Elections Night Out, our goal is to get as many 16 and 17-year-olds as possible pre-registered to vote, and inspire them to encourage their classmates and friends to get pre-registered, as well," said Half Moon Bay Communications Director/City Clerk Jessica Blair. "It's so important to engage prospective voters early and help them create the positive habit of voting and civic engagement. Only 14% of this age group in California is pre-registered - we're aiming for 100% on the Coastside!"

Following this event, the City will work with the Cabrillo Unified School District to offer voter registration drives on campuses throughout the school year. The City is proud to help implement this important step in preparing new voters to participate in federal, state, and municipal elections in 2020
